SASSA Payment Delays and Issues

SASSA payment delays and issues are a serious problem for South Africa’s poor, who rely on their children’s payments to pay for food, shelter, education, and other basic needs.

The government-run social welfare agency has struggled to keep up with the increased number of applicants for grants in recent years.

In 2017 alone, SASSA experienced a backlog of over one million payments that had not been met due to an increase in applications from families.

Those were made eligible by a new law requiring all children under 18 to be enrolled in school or have proof of schooling.

The agency also experienced issues when it shifted from its old system of paying grants into bank accounts to issuing them in cash at post offices around the country.

SASSA says it is working on resolving its problems and hopes to have things back on track soon.

Checking Your SASSA Payment Date

It’s important to know when you’ll be receiving your SASSA payment. If you don’t receive your payment in time, it could cause problems for you or your family.

To check the date of your next SASSA payment, I recommend following these steps:

  1. Log into your account on the SASSA website
  2. Click on “Payment dates” under “My account” in the navigation bar on top of the page
  3. Look at the date listed under “next payment date”

Important Reminders for SASSA Recipients

Please be aware that your SASSA payment date may change if you have recently changed address, or if your payment card has expired.

If your payment card has expired, you will need to order a new one from the website.

Please note that this process can take up to 4 weeks to complete, so please submit your request as soon as possible.

If you have recently changed addresses, please submit your change of address form online. If possible, include a copy of your ID document with the form.

Your new address will be added to our system and your next payment will be delivered there as soon as possible.
