About SASSA Old Age Grant
The South African Social Security Agency’s (SASSA) Old Age Grant provides social security for elderly people in South Africa. The SASSA Old Age Grant scheme provides a basic pension and is administered by the SA Social Security Agency to provide for minimum subsistence levels, and to finance the national anti-poverty social security reforms, without running an annuity or fund.
It operates in a non-contributory (or cash grant) mode with full actuarial fairness built into all grants; and is payable from age 60 to 69.
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) was established by the South African Social Security Agency Act of 2003, with the intention of providing better service to old people.
